The cist or kistvaen, just south of the stone rows, Merrivale.

A cist is an ancient stone-built coffin-like box used to house the remains of the dead. They were normally stone-lined with a large capstone placed on top. This one is a good example, although the capstone was deliberately split in order to use part of it as a gate-post in 1860!
